A very powerful and brave piece of writing Barry. I have shown this to a lot of people and the reaction is uniform, usually tears and then a quick phone call to the parents to check in on them (I have seen a very, very profound reaction from some people – the better half was devastated for you – as we all are, but your handling of it is incredible). For any piece of writing to have this sort of impact is the holy grail for any writer. Thanks for sharing your loss and giving the rest of us a valuable life lesson in facing adversity and loss.
